Obituary

Maureen Elizabeth Hazlett, 65, of Tucson, passed away on January 1, 2020 in Tucson, AZ.

She was born on May 6, 1954 to Ross and Mary (Biffath) Hazlett in Winslow, AZ. She attended school at Salpointe Catholic High School (72) The University Of Arizona for her undergraduate degree in Family Studies and then to Ottawa University. Maureen worked in early childhood education for 40 years serving southern Arizona.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for almost 60 years. She lived her life in service of the church and her community. She started working with the Pima County Interfaith Council in the Early 90’s. She was an advocate for equality and fought tirelessly to better the community is in which she lived. She Founded the Amphi Neighborhood Association around the same time. She helped those who needed it and protected all she loved.

Maureen is survived by her Daughter, Jocelyn Cristo, Son in law Tom Bolen and her Grandson Thomas Bolen of Tucson, AZ.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18th at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

In lieu of donations in her memory Maureen’s family challenges, you do something randomly nice or help in your community just because. Maureen was not a boastful person so she should be memorialized in a way that fits her. Say a personal prayer, reflect on your life. Be good to those you love and even those you don’t. Live each day of your life a little more as she did courageously, generously and humbly with love in your heart.

I co taught catechism classes with Maureen at Sacred Heart Parish for the last four years. She would always greet the children with a smile.
I admired her commitment to teaching the Catholic faith to the children of our Parish.
She will be missed by our class as well as all those she taught throughout the years. I enjoyed helping Ms Maureen in the classroom and will truly miss her.

It seems like only yesterday that we sat eating dinner on your brand new dining chairs, laughing, talking! You were always happy, welcoming and smiling! I will miss you at family gatherings, but look forward to seeing you in the future where we can sit again and talk and laugh.
