Obituary

Beth Lu Mar Yankee of Tucson, Arizona, died peacefully in her sleep on February 2, 2019. She was born on October 30, 1937 in Manistee, Michigan, the daughter of Arthur and Dorothea Yankee. She graduated from Manistee High School in 1955, attended Valparaiso University for her Bachelors degree and then successfully completed her training as a physician at Wayne State University in 1963. As a newly trained doctor, Beth chose to spend the next eight years of her life as a medical missionary in Nigeria. Upon returning to the United States, she began her own family practice in the community of Eaton Rapids, just south of Lansing, Michigan. Beth married the beloved man of her life, Andreas (Andy) Jensen, on January 11, 1986 at First Lutheran Church in Charlotte, Michigan. They moved to Tucson in 1990 where Beth retired from her medical practice in 1996 having enjoyed family medicine, obstetrics and general surgery for over 30 years. She served in four different congregations during her life focusing her gifts on evangelism and stewardship. Surviving Beth are her nephews, Stuart (Lisa) Yankee of Holland, Michigan and Scott Yankee of Manistee, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband Andy, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Ethel Yankee as well as her parents, Arthur and Dorothea Yankee. A memorial service will take place at 11am in Faith Lutheran Church in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Committal will take place in the spring at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Manistee, Michigan. Losing our loved ones can be a rough time to deal with. We often feel helpless, because there is nothing we can do to bring that person back to life. But there is comfort in the Bible at:(Isaiah 26:19)"Your dead will live. My corpses will rise up. Awake and shout joyfully, You residents in the dust! For your dew is as the dew of the morning. And the earth will let those powerless in death come to life." This prophecy tells us that one day we will see our loved ones brought back to life again in a new world! So hold on to this hope and seek Jehovah God to see his promises unfold......
